Mon 10th Oct 2016Ellerstina & La Dolfina FinalThe Tortugas Open Nears Completion There were no surprises in the results of the last round of games in The Tortugas Open as Ellerstina and La Dolfina move forward to face each other in the first Final of the Argentine Triple Crown. The outcome of games and form of the entered teams left little doubt about how the weekend’s games would pan out. La Aguada Las Monjitas were the first to fall away as Cambiaso and his trio of 10 goalers defeated them confidently with a 12-5 score on Saturday 8 October. This win now brings La Dolfina to 35 consecutive wins in Triple Crown tournament games, an unstoppable train that Ellerstina have yet to halt. Fred Mannix’s team Alegría faced defeat against Ellerstina, but faired marginally better than the Novillo Astrada family, on Sunday 9 October, losing by a narrower margin with a final score of 11-9. In the first chukka it was looking hopeful for the Canadian, as the players changed horses at the end of the first chukka the score was stuck on 2-2, but by the fourth chukka it wasn’t looking great as the gap widened to 8-4. Ellerstina failed to score in the last two chukkas, whilst 10 goal duo Hilario Ulloa and Sapo Caset managed to produce more goals in the second half than the first, although they couldn’t quite make the goals they needed to overtake the Pieres family. The Final will take place on Sunday 15 October at the Tortugas Country Club. Click here to see the full team lists and results of all the games played to date.
