Sotogrande Excitement Continues

Gold Cups at Santa Marķa Polo Club

Although the Olympics have come to an end in Rio, the British success continues at Santa María Polo Club, Sotogrande. The Isolas 1892 Gold Cup has seen British team Foxcote dominate the qualifiers. Darko Horvat (0), Henry Jones (2), Tom Beim (3) and Tommy Severn (1) managed convincing wins over Lechuza-John Smith and Jolly Rogers last week. Today, Monday 22 August, will see them challenge Valdeparras, who have so far lost both their qualifying matches against Bayswater and Shakib Polo-Sotovila. Today’s matches will determine which teams feature in the Semi Finals on Friday 26 August.

Meanwhile the Aerolineas Argentinas Gold Cup in the medium goal kicked-off last Monday and has seen Golden Goose Deluxe Brand remain undefeated throughout the qualifying matches, with a close win of 11-10 over Marqués de Riscal yesterday, Sunday 21 August. This victory means they join GSA in the Semi Finals on Wednesday 24 August, as GSA defeated Sainte Mesme 13-12 in a thrilling match on Saturday 20 August. Brunei, Sainte Mesme, Santa Quiteria and Seven Sevens today face a penalty shootout to determine who will take the two remaining slots in Wednesday’s Semi Finals.

In the high goal, Dubai have made a comeback after losing out on a place in the Silver Cup Final, with three consecutive wins, securing them a place in the Semi Finals of the Cartier Gold Cup. However, Silver Cup champions Brunei demonstrated the horsepower and teamwork which secured them their Silver Cup success and defeated Dubai, which means they will also join Dubai and Lechuza Caracas in the Semi Finals. There is now just one place left in the Semi Finals, so the competition is on between Ayala and Dos Lunas – A&G Banca Privada. Who will be victorious? The Semi Finalist will be decided following the matches on Wednesday 24 August: Ayala vs Brunei and Lechuza Caracas vs Dos Lunas – A&G Banca Privada.
