Thu 14th Jul 2016King Power Foxes & La IndianaWho Will Win The Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup? If dark clouds rumbling over the Cowdray Estate on Wednesday 13 July weren’t dramatic enough, the two Semi Finals in The Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup for the British Open had the throngs of polo enthusiasts on the edge of their seats as two power struggles played out before them. King Power Foxes looked like they were going to be knocked out by the might of Adolfo Cambiaso and Valiente, but a regroup and half-time team talk saw the Pieres camp come back from the brink to win 11-10. Hugo Lewis spoke about their comeback and hopes for the Final saying, “It is what we were aiming for, I’m really excited now. At the start when we were 6-2 but we changed it up at halftime. If we can play like we did in the second half in the Final we will have a good chance.” King Power Foxes have had a close shave throughout the tournament losing against Talandracas and only winning by one goal against tournament favourites Zacara and Britannia El Remanso. In the second game of the day Zacara took on the Cartier Queen’s Cup Finalists and firm favourites La Indiana. The scores inched forward on both sides throughout the six chukkas as Lyndon Lea’s team pushed forward in an attempt to reach their first Final of the season and at half time the score was 6-5 in their favour. As we all know, in the high goal scoreline is about as stable as a three legged table on a rough sea when there is only one goal in it at half-time. Michael Bickford spoke about their strategy for their win after the game saying, “It was amazing, this is technically our third Final given the Trippets Challenge Final as well. Zacara played really well, but we just kept our cool and it worked. We think the Final will be a tough game, but we beat these guys before so we are going to try and do it again.” His right-hand man for the duration of the British high goal season Agustin ‘Tincho’ Merlos summed up the Semi Final win with a concise comment, “Very happy, mission accomplished.” The Final will take place on Sunday 17 July at 3pm. Online sales of tickets are now closed, however unlimited entry tickets can be bought on the gate for the Final at a cost of £20 per person (children and cars enter for free).
