Fri 15th Jan 2016 More Action in Palm Beach The Joe Barry Cup Continues at the International Polo Club Despite rain during the week, The Joe Barry Cup has continued over the last few days with wins for Dubai, Orchard Hill, Enigma, Villa del Lago and Palm Beach Illustrated. On Wednesday 13 January Palm Beach Illustrated beat Michael Bickford’s La Indiana, 12-6. With this defeat, La Indiana continued their losing streak. So far the brand new line-up is yet to win in the 20 goal season. Earlier in the day Enigma rode to victory against the Herbie Pennell victors with a 17-12 win over Coca-Cola. Thursday 14 January’s matches saw wins for Dubai, who played their first match of the season with Leo Mandelbaum filling in for Rashid Albwardy. It was a positive start for Dubai as they came out strongly, notching up 12 goals to opposition, Audi Millarville’s 9. Orchard Hill vs Valiente was next up. This was a tighter game, the teams well matched, making for exciting watching for the audience gathered at the International Polo Club. With 10 goaler Polito Pieres on for Orchard Hill, Valiente were hard pressed to keep up, but they made a great effort, bringing the game back to a tight 11-10 victory for Orchard Hill. The final match of the day was an 11-9 win to Villa del Lago over Tonkawa. Tonkawa were always on the defence so had little chance to make a difference on the scoreboard, with Villa del Lago’s Ulloa matching them goal for goal whenever they were able to sneak past the strong defence. The matches that were scheduled for Sunday 17 January have been postponed dues to bad weather. The games have yet to be re-scheduled.
