Brits battle it out in the youth polo in Sotogrande

Finals of the Championship of Andalucia and Spain 2015

The Finals of the Championship of Andalucia and Spain 2015 were played yesterday, Monday 24 August, on the fields of Los Pinos, home of the high goal polo at Santa Maria Polo Club. The Final for the younger section was played first, with a win from Mia Cambiaso’s team, Dos Lunas, against little brother Adolfito Cambiaso (Jr) who was playing for El Caracol, but it was the upper group that was all about the Brits, as all four of the English kids playing out in Sotogrande reached the Final. Team Don Peludo featured three British players: Ned Hine, Alannah Horswell and Chloe Horswell, joined by Alicia Gariador. Playing for his Father’s team La Indiana, Will Harper was joined by Carlos Lucena (Jr), Sofia Amieva and Fran Gomez. It was a great game between the two teams and a fantastic showcase of the young British talent. The teams were well matched, fighting it out throughout the game, but it was La Indiana who scored the first goal in chukka one when Will Harper had a solo run through the posts. The second chukka of the two chukka game saw another great goal from La Indiana despite some great plays from Ned and the Horswell sisters. The final score was 2-1 with Don Peludo’s goal coming from an incredible nearside under the neck shot by Ned right at the end of the second chukka. The afternoon was filled with fun as polo’s newest (and tiniest) players took to the field to compete against each other. Congratulations to all involved and special congrats go to the runners up, Don Peludo and the winners, La Indiana.
