Mon 24th Aug 2015England Ladies’ Team win in South AfricaEast Rand Polo Club play host to The Ladies’ International Test Match On Sunday 23 August, the South African Polo Association hosted the England Ladies’ team at East Rand Polo Club. The day was packed full of polo at all levels, from low goal to 18 goal, which finished with The Ladies’ International Test Match. The HPA selected England Ladies’ team consisted of Claire Brougham, Hazel Jackson, Lottie Lamacraft and Emma Boers. Representing South Africa were Candice Kane-Berman, Jossie Spilsbury, Jo Spilsbury and Amy Gace. The English girls were invited to play in a women's tournament for the two days prior to the test match, in which they were able to try an array of excellent ponies kindly lent by SAPA members. Polo Times heard from Lottie Lamacraft after the match who said, “We had a strong start, with Claire Brougham scoring a beautiful field goal on a nippy grey pony lent by Amy Gace. The girls then went on to score two more goals in the first chukka, providing a confident start for us. The home team exhibited unrelenting and passionate defence, clearly showing-off the power and speed of the South African thoroughbreds they were riding. The South Africans replied to our offensive play with some crowd raising runs from Amy Gace and her determined teammates, but were unfortunate not to convert their opportunities.” The English team, who were coached by Gareth Evans, showed that with a combination of teamwork, energy and experience they were able to run out the winners 9-0. The Most Valuable Player Award went to English Captain, Hazel Jackson and The Best Playing Pony Award went to Buronda, owned by Lionel Foster and played by Hazel Jackson.
