The polo never stops at Santa Maria, as match after match is fought out each morning and afternoon, avoiding the punishing heat of the midday sun. Polo Times are pitch side to bring you the latest from Sotogrande. High goal The first rounds of the high goal Gold Cup continued on the fields of Los Pinos on Tuesday 18 August, with wins from Ayala and Dubai. Dubai beat HB Polo 9-6, while Ayala beat Dos Lunas 10 goals to 7. The teams from Zone A are set to play their second matches today, Thursday 20 August with La Indiana taking on RH Polo and Murus Sanctus playing Lechuza Caracas. Tomorrow, Friday 21 August will see Zone B tackle each other and the remaining zone matches will take place over the weekend, deciding who will play in the Semi Finals on Wednesday 26 August. Medium goal In medium goal, the matches continued on Wednesday 19 August, with Bayswater-Sapphire beating Golden Goose Deluxe Brand by just one goal in a closely fought match. James Beim’s Bronze Cup winning team, Equus, beat fellow Brit and winner of the Silver Cup Malcolm Borwick, playing for Opel-Royal Salute, with a surprising 15 goals to 9, meanwhile Sainte Mesme were busy taking on Yaguara, beating them 13-8. The Semi Finals will take place on the evening of Tuesday 25 August, so until then, the prestigious Gold Cup is up for grabs to anyone who can keep a cool head throughout the qualifying rounds. Low goal The morning of Tuesday 18 August saw the first three matches from the low goal Gold Cup take place. Bronze and Silver Cup winners and current favourites, La Clarita started as they mean to go on, beating El Cañal 12 goals to 8. Valdeparras Lynx secured a win against GSA 11-7, and twice finalists Opel-John Smith were defeated by Mahra 11-5. The deciders for the Semi Finals go on all week, before the two matches on the morning of Tuesday 25 August will decide the finalists.
