Mon 13th Apr 2015 Bin Drai win in Dubai Inaugural 10 goal tournament held at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club Rashid and Mohammed Bin Drai led their self-named team to victory in the very first Dubai Cup Polo Tournament at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club on Friday 10 April. Joined by Argentine professionals, Nico Petracchi and Raul Laplacette, the team defeated HH Sheikha Maitha’s UAE, by 10½ goals to 6. As a lower handicapped team, Bin Drai received a half goal advantage, but very much appeared the dominating side as they consistently kept ahead of UAE’s challenge.  Bin Drai retained a steady 2½ goal lead from the start with the first half finishing 5½-5. UAE looked to come back stronger after half-time, narrowing the lead to 1½, but still couldn’t overtake by the end of the third. In the fourth, Bin Drai clearly had the prospect of a near victory in their sights and pushed through to claim the game by a satisfying 4½ goal margin. Mohammed Al Habtoor, founder of The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series promoted this new medium goal tournament, which led to an extension in the Dubai polo season. “I launched The Dubai Polo Gold Cup in 2009 and it has grown into one of the most prestigious – and highest handicap ¬– polo events in the region. Tournaments like these, including The Dubai Cup, enhance Dubai’s position as a leading polo destination.” Earlier in the day, Habtoor Polo won the Subsidiary Final after defeating Mahra, 9-7.
