10 goaler Pablo MacDonough scored two goals in the final chukka to ensure the Zedan polo team won The Julius Baer Gold Cup at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club on Friday 13 March. Patron, Amr Zedan (0) and teammates, Martin Gandara (4) and Facundo Fernandez Llorente (4) joined MacDonough in a close Final, which saw them defeat the well respected, Bin Drai (Seed Bin Drai (0), Agustin Canale (6), Manolo Fernandez Llorente (6) and Raul Laplacette (6)), 9-7. Zedan – winning the tournament for the first time – led throughout the game, but scores were close with just one single goal between the teams at the end of the fifth. Two consecutive goals from MacDonough decided the game with the Triple Crown Champion unsurprisingly being awarded the Most Valuable Player prize. His mare, Irenita Pimienta from the Argentinean Polo Breeders Association was the Best Playing Pony whilst the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club recognized Bin Drai’s Veronica, played by Manolo Fernandez Llorente. In the Subsidiary Final for The Bentley Cup, Abu Dhabi defeated Mahra 7 goals to 5 with the winning patron, Faris Al Yabhouni named the Best Amateur of the Final.
