Mon 23rd Feb 2015The 27th UK Women’s National Arena Tournament12 teams battled in torrential rain for the winning titles
The largest women’s tournament in the winter arena season calendar was played for in the midst of the new women’s handicap debate on Sunday 22 February. Driving rain didn’t put a dampener on a fantastic display of all female competition from both the professionals and patrons alike. The top level (3-4 goal) Final was played between Clarita (Saskia Matthias (-1), Saskia Meadows (1) and Rosie Ross (3)) and Mrs. B’s (Maxine Betteridge (0), Georgia Sweeney (1) and Charlotte Sweeney (3)). Polo Manager at Ascot Park Jenny Blake-Thomas commented to Polo Times, “the games were great to watch and the score really didn’t reflect how even the play was”. Clarita ran out the winners with a final score of 21-10. Saskia Meadows, who recently played in the HPA New Year National Club Championships at The Royal County of Berkshire in an all ladies line-up and reached the Final, was awarded The Polo Magazine Most Valuable Player Award. Rosie Ross’ Bush Pig was awarded the Polo Times Best Playing Pony Award. In the Subsidiary Final, Hampshire Polo Club (Larissa Westall (-1), Lolly Stanhope-White (2) and Heloise Wilson-Smith (2)) won against Black Hound Pink Power (Mandie Beitner (0), Charlotte Christodoulou (1) and Bryony Taylor (2)) 18-8. In the 2 goal section, Moor Hall Farm (Alexandra Edwards (-1), Francesa Smith (0) and Charlotte Sweeney (3)) defeated Adrenalin Polo (Heather Winsor (0), Georgie French (0) and Georgina Crofton (2)) 13-9. Alex Edwards was awarded The Polo Magazine Most Valuable Player Award. In the subsidiary Final Alegria (Tatiana Menshenina (-1), Laura Plant (1) and Claire Maldonado (2)) won against Las Aguilas (Sophie Granchi (0), Lucy Bowman (1) and Charley Howell (1)) with a final score of 14-10. In the 0-1 goal section Berkshire Vehicle Sales (Yasmin Tatlah (0), Genevieve Meadows (0) and Charley Howell (1)) won against Paradise Farm (Honor Horswell (-1), Christobel Horswell (-1) and Lolly Stanhope-White (2)) despite the worst weather of the day in a nail biting game and a final score of 12-10. Genevieve Meadows was awarded The Polo Magazine Most Valuable Player Award. A full report from the tournament will be in the April issue of Polo Times.
