Mon 9th Feb 2015Ylvisaker Memorial Cup in full swing20 goal tournament hits halfway mark in Palm Beach The Ylvisaker Memorial Cup, held at International Polo Club Palm Beach, now runs into its second week of play after a flat out weekend. Friday’s results included a second win for Valiente with a close score of 9-8 against CT Energia. The second game of the day produced a win for Casablanca with a 9-8 score against Tonkawa who have now lost both of their scheduled games. In the last game of the day, Villa del Lago defeated Gateway Merchants with a healthy score of 12-9 whilst Coca-Cola triumphed against Lucchese 9-8. Sunday produced a second win in the tournament for Orchard Hill against CT Energia 12-8 followed by a win for Audi against FlexJet with the same score of 12-8. The final game of the day left Palm Beach Illustrated concede their second defeat in the tournament against Enigma with a close score of 14-13. Gateway Merchants first scheduled game against Casablanca, which was suspended following Luis Ecobar’s fall, is scheduled to restart today. Tommorrow Villa del Lago will play Tonkawa and on Wednesday CT Energia will play Palm Beach Illustrated followed by Casablanca against Lucchese and finally Coca-Cola against Gateway Merchants. The remaining league games before the Quarter Finals will be held on Thursday 12 February with FlexJet against Orchard Hill and Enigma facing Valiente. So far the front-runners are Valiente, Orchard Hill and Coca-Cola having won two games a piece, Audi have so far won two out of three games whilst Tonkawa and Palm Beach Illustrated have yet to win a match. The Semi Final will take place on Wednesday 18 and the Finals on Sunday 22 February. The 20 goal tournament at International Polo Club Palm Beach is played in the memory of visionary businessman and former Captain of the Yale polo team, Bill Ylvisaker who founded Palm Beach Polo & Country Club. Ylvisaker also founded the Polo Training Foundation to teach and develop young polo players. During his playing career he won three U.S. Open Championships, two Coronation Cups against England and Australia, the U.S. Polo Association Gold Cup and four national 20 goal championships and retained a 7 goal handicap.
