Thu 29th Jan 2015Close call for England team at Tianjin Goldin Metropolitan Polo ClubResults in from first and second days of Fortune Heights Snow Polo World Cup
Title-holders, England were the first to take to the pitch against new competitors, Peru at the Tianjin Goldin Metropolitan Polo Club in China yesterday. Despite being one of the top-seeded teams in The Fortune Heights Snow Polo world Cup, the young squad of Jack Richardson, Max Routledge and Matt Perry nearly came unstuck as underdogs, Peru scored the first goal of the match and continued to apply pressure. Goals from team Captain, Jack Richardson and Matt Perry kept England in the game, but a goal from Peru’s Guillermo Li forced the match into extra time. Max Routledge kept his nerve to score the decisive goal, sealing a narrow victory for England with 6 goals to 5. Brazil then went on dominate Canada in the second match, notching up nine goals between them, whilst Canada’s Brandon Phillips managed to find the posts on one occasion, just saving his team from a goal-less league match. The last game of the opening day was an exciting one with Argentina and New Zealand trading places for the lead throughout. In the end, NZ Captain, Tom Hunt led his team to a 7-5 victory. Today’s games saw Hong Kong China (John Fisher, Pablo Jauretche and Juan Britos) overcome a strong Spanish side (Juan Clemente Marambio, Pelayo Berazardi and Santiago Marambio) to win the league opener for zone 2 of the tournament with a goal score of 4-2. Chile (Martin Zegers Greene, Alejandro Vial and Ignacio Vial Mazieres) then enjoyed a narrow 5-4 victory over the American (Delmer Walton, Tommy Biddle and Mike Azzaro) team whilst France (Clement Delfosse, Patrick Primael Paillol and Brieuc Rigaux) ran out clear winners over Mexico (Valerio Sotelo, Diego Solarzano and Carlos Hernandez), beating them 9 goals to 2.
