Joe Barry Cup Finals decided in Palm Beach

Orchard Hill and Villa Del Lago win after thrills and spills in Semi Finals

In a dramatic series of games covering two days of Semi Finals, Steve Van Andel's Orchard Hill will play Jim Zenni's Villa Del Lago in The Joe Barry Cup Final at the International Polo Club, Palm Beach. Van Andel and his Orchard Hill team of Remy Du Celliee Muller (2), Lucas Criado (8) and Facundo Pieres have won against Coca Cola, Merchant Hub, Lechuza Caracas and Luchesse to make it to the Final. They have been conservative with their scores, only winning each game by just one goal. Zenni’s Villa Del Lago (Augustine Obregon (5), Julian de Lusarreta (6) and Polito Pieres (9)) defeated Merchant Hub, Coca Cola, Lechuza Caracas and Enigma to secure their place in the Final.

The Semi Final between Orchard Hill and Luchesse was a tough, close-scoring contest with Facundo Pieres managing to keep his team ahead by two goals most of the way. It was also a dramatic match with Benjamin Avendano substituting for John Muse before Andres Weisz had a nasty fall in the fourth chukka. Whilst the team set about looking for a substitute, darkness closed in and the decision was made to reschedule the remainder of the match to the following day. With the scoreboard reading 8-6 in favour of Orchard Hill and 4 goaler Geronimo Obregon stepping into the breach for Weisz, play continued on Thursday. Luchesse coming back with a vengeance to fend off Facundo's goal scoring, but despite the game being played on two different days and grounds, Orchard Hill stood their ground to win.

Villa Del Lago defeated Enigma (Jerome Wirth (1), Jeff Hall (7), Matias MacDonough (7) and Carlucho Arellano (5)) in the Semi Final despite the latter leading the scores until the fifth chukka. Jim Zenni’s team put in a stellar performance to notch up five consecutive goals turning the game around in their favour to an 11-10 lead. The final chukka was a goalless affair with both sides fiercely defending their goals and so providing Villa Del Lago with their second 20 goal Final of the Palm Beach season.

In the Subsidiary Semi Finals for The Bobby Barry Cup, Lechuza Caracas changed their team line-up substituting Victor Vargas for his son-in-law Luis Alfonso de Borbon (1) and their 6 goal professional Martin Espain for Tomas Goti (6) to play alongside Marcos Alberdi (3) and Juan Martin Nero (10). With a start to the game filled with fouls, it took the teams some time to settle into a rhythm. Jeff Hildebrand's Tonkawa featuring Jeff Blake (6), Gonzalo Deltour (7) and Inaki Laprida (7) made an attempt to fight back in chukka three and four with a scoring spree to close the gap from 7-2 to 8-5, but they couldn't catch Lechuza Caracas who ran out the winners 9-7.Thus they secured their place in The Bobby Barry Subsidiary Cup against Audi.

The second Subsidiary Final for The Bobby Barry Cup saw a husband versus wife contest with Marc Ganzi and his Audi team line-up of Lucas Lalor (5), Freddie Mannix (6) and Nic Roldan (8) produce a convincing win over Melissa Ganzi and her team Flight Options Flex Jet with Juan Bollini (5), Miguel Novillo Astrada (9) and Guille Aguero (6). Roldan was on excellent form, propelling Audi past the posts with a final score of 9-4 to secure their place in the Subsidiary Final.
