HH President of UAE Polo Cup begins

Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club welcomes top players for first tournament of 2015

The 2015 HH President of UAE Polo Cup began yesterday, Tuesday 6 January at Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, welcoming a total of nine teams to the polo facility in Dubai. On the opening day of the two-week long tournament, Abu Dhabi (Faris Al Yabhouni (0), Alfredo Capella (7), Hugo Barabucci (6) and Felipe Martinez-Ferrario (4)) defeated Desert Palm II (Tariq Albwardy (1), Tom Brodie (2), Diego Cavanagh (8) and Matias Torres Zavaleta (7)), 6 goals to 5. In the second match of the afternoon, the host team, Ghantoot (Ali Almerri (0), Felipe Llorente (3), Juan Martin Zavaleta (7) and Alejandro Muzzio (8)) beat Desert Palm I (Rashid Albwardy (2), Martin Valent (4), Santiago Laborde (6) and Facundo Castagnola (6)), 6-4. 
The tournament continued today with Habtoor (Ahmed Al Habtoor (0), Guillermo Cuitino (6), Santiago Cernadas (6) and Martin Iturraspe (6)) overcoming Mahra (Rashid Al Habtoor, Guy Gibrat (5), Nacho Gonzalez (6) and Marcos Araya (7)), 11 goals to 7. Spectators then witnessed the Bin Drai team of Saeed Bin Drai (0), Agustin Canale (6), Manolo Fernandez-Llorente (6) and Raul Laplacette (6) beat Edrees (Sultan Edrees (0), Juan Pedro Chavanne (5), Juan Gris Guinazu (7) and Pierre Henri H’Goumou (5)) by six goals with the final score reading 11-5. In the last match of the day, Zedan, which featured 10 goaler, Pablo MacDonough alongside Amr Zedan (0), Martin Gandara (4) and Facundo Fernandez-Llorente (4) beat HH Sheikha Maitha’s UAE team by a comfortable four goals. Despite 9 goaler Lucas Monteverde, Santi Stirling (5) and Nacho Acuna (4) joining the UAE line-up, they lost 3 goals to 7 to Zedan. 
Polo continues tomorrow with Abu Dhabi facing Desert Palm I and Ghantoot facing Desert Palm II.
