Fri 24th Oct 2014 Ladies polo is on the up across the globe Following tournaments in France, Spain, Singapore and Malaysia, the circuit now continues in Argentina
The Campeonato Femenino de la AAP begins this weekend with a staggering 18 teams entered in two sections. The tournament’s line-up includes Annabel McNaught-Davis from the UK as well up and coming Argentine lady players, and for the first time Adolfo Cambiaso and Miguel Novillo Astrada's daughters. McNaught-Davis, who sold all her ponies in the UK back in 2007 has gone on to set up her own Estancia and polo operation in Argentina where she specialises in breeding and breaking, only returning to the UK in the summer. McNaught-Davis plays off a 6 goal handicap and will be playing as part of the Miramar team in both the High Goal and the Secondary Section. In recent years, the AAP have brought in a Ladies Handicap system, which has also seem to have been adopted in America. This unique rating system was instigated through the Ladies Polo Commission in association with the AAP yet the main driving force behind the ordeal was Samy Perrusi. Perrusi also runs www.ladiespolotour.com.ar, a website listing all ladies polo fixtures in Argentina.
