Fri 17th Oct 2014Pakistan will be going to Chile for The FIP World ChampionshipsIndia lose by just one goal to Pakistan at the Tianjin Goldin Metropolitan Polo Club in China
Pakistan’s 4 goaler Ahmed Ali Tiwana, reporting from the Zone D playoffs in China, told Polo Times: “It was a great game and we fought hard to win as India lead the way until the fourth chukka”. The historic archrivals took the game into a sudden death, seventh chukka to decide who would face England (who qualified at Beaufort Polo Club last month), Argentina and the hosts, Chile at The FIP World Championships in March 2015. The Pakistan team line-up of Maj Haseeb Minhas (Captain, 3), Zain Khakwani (3), Saqib Khakwani (4) and Ahmed Ali Tiwana (4) faced Naveen Singh (1), Lt. Col. Ravi Rthore (4), Abhimanyu Pathak (4) and Simran Shergill (5) of India. Khakwani converted four penalties, Tiwana scored three field goals and Maj Haseeb Minhas notched up a single field goal for Pakistan, before India tied the score at 8-8 with just 52 seconds left on the clock in the final nail-biting chukka. Incredibly, India then had an opportunity to clinch the match, following a 30-yard penalty being awarded, but they missed and the game went into a seventh chukka. Once again India had a shot at goal which went just wide, before a 60-yard penalty was awarded and subsequently converted by Most Valuable Player winner, Saquib Khakwani who gave his team, Pakistan their win. Zone A (Mexico, Canada, USA, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic) and Zone B (Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Uruguay) are yet to be played, but are scheduled respectively for December and November this year.
