Thu 16th Oct 2014Battle of the Brits in MalaysiaSarah Wiseman and Claire Brougham beat April Kent and Windhorse International to reach the Final of The Malaysian Ladies Polo Championships
The results from today’s games in the second round stage of the tournament, saw a win for La Justina against Tu Polo, 10-5 and La Pampa GTM overcoming Windhorse International, 5½ -3. The Windhorse International team’s three goals came from a field goal by April Kent whilst her teammate, Sunny Hale scored a 40-yard penalty and Jennifer Too a field goal. However, it wasn’t enough to beat the combination of Claire Brougham and Sarah Wiseman. April Kent of Moyne Polo Club and playing for the Windhorse International team reported to Polo Times from Malaysia: “Our match was full to the brim with missed goals by our team, but La Pampa played well and went on to win. It was a great battle and a really exciting match.” La Justina started their game well with five goals on the scoreboard to Tu Polo’s two goals within the first chukka. Tu Polo managed to keep their opposition at bay in the second, allowing only one goal to get past their defense, but by the third the score had grown to 9-3 in favour of La Justina. Tu Polo made a last ditch attempt in the final chukka with Dayell Fargey scoring a 30-yard penalty and Abby Riggs striking a field goal just before the bell, but La Justina still won 10-5. Today’s deciding matches mean that La Pampa GTM go onto face La Justina in the grand Final for The Visa International Cup whilst Tu Polo will meet Windhorse International in the Semi Final for The Jaeger-LeCoultre Cup. Both matches are scheduled for this weekend, Saturday 18 October.
