Guards Polo Club takes Brazil

Guards International Series expands its fixtures as far as Brazil

Adding to its current events in China, Dubai and Argentina, the Guards Polo Club team is hosting its first Guards International Sao Paulo Polo Trophy at Helvetia Polo Club in Brazil from the 15 – 20 September. With a staggering 45 fields, this incredible location is the ideal venue for a competitive challenge between Brazil's top handicapped amateurs and Guards' patrons Adriano Agosti, Alex Brodie, Eitan Koren and Grant Mayer. Team sponsors include EFG Bank, Yaguara, TeleAtlantic and Guards Polo Club, all familiar names to a UK polo audience, as is La Martina, who have been named the official shirt suppliers.

Neil Hobday says of this latest event for Club patrons: “Guards Polo Club has staged its luxurious International Polo Tournament format to great acclaim across the globe – from Windsor to Beijing – and it is fitting that this successful model, combining excellent sport with the finest hospitality, will now be showcased in Brazil, a country that shares our passion for polo.”
The Club’s International series first began in 2006 with the creation of the Cartier International Dubai Polo Challenge event at Ali Albwardy’s Desert Palm Polo Club.  This was followed by Beijing in 2012 at Shilai Liu’s Tang Polo Club. A year later the Club created the Guards La Aguada Polo Cup in Argentina in conjunction with the Novillo Astrada brothers.

Teams selected to go include the following players;

TeleAtlantic: Eitan Koren 0, Wolff Klabin 2, Renato Diniz Junqueira 6, Joao Gaspar Martins Bastos 5 (13)

EFG Bank: Alex Brodie 1, Jose Eduardo de Souza Aranha 2, Francisco Marcos Junqueira Netto 4, Luiz Paulo Martins Bastos 6 (13)

Yaguara: Grant Mayer 1, Roberto Edydio de Souza Aranha 3, Carlos Francisco Martins Bastos 4, Gonçalo Matarrazo 5 (13)

Guards Polo Club: Adriano Agosti 0, Igor Pinheiro 3, Norberto Pinheiro 4, Rodrigo Pinheiro 5 (12)
