DUBAI AND KING Power will play Sunday’s Gold Cup final, after both teams won their respective semi-finals earlier today.
Rashid Albwardy’s Dubai side, featuring Diego Cavanagh, Adolfo Cavanagh and Brit Ali Paterson edged past the all-British Halcyon Gallery team to win the first match of today’s semi-finals 9-8. The four Brits, George Hanbury, Mark Tomlinson, James Beim and James Harper put up an impressive fight, coming back from 6-2 down at half-time to level at 8-8 in the final chukka, but it was Dubai who put the winning goal through the posts to secure a place in their second consecutive Gold Cup final.
In the second match of the day, Gonzalito Pieres led Top Srivaddhanaprabba’s King Power side to a 14-10 victory over John Muse’s Lucchese. With Pablo Llorente and Marcos Di Paola on side, Gold Cup newcomers King Power made a strong start to the match, keeping control in the final chukkas to take the second spot in the final.
The Gold Cup final will be played at Cowdray Park Polo Club on Sunday at 3pm. Online ticket sales have now closed, but tickets are available on the gate, and cost £20.
