RENOWNED POLO JOURNALIST Herbert Spencer has died. The HPA Life Member and Polo Times columnist died peacefully at his home in Berkshire on Tuesday 1 July, aged 85. Born on 14 January 1929, Herbert was one of the most highly-respected polo writers and journalists. He published the polo book Chakkar in 1971, and a magazine of the same name in the 1980s. He has written for Horse and Hound, Polo Player’s Edition and Hurlingham, as well as being a regular Polo Times columnist. He was made a Life Member of the HPA in 2011. Originally from the USA, Herbert moved to England in 1965. He leaves behind wife Judith, and two daughters.
