Mon 17th Jun 2013Zacara wins Cartier Queen's Cup Lyndon Lea records his first Queen's Cup win
ZACARA CLAIMED THE Cartier Queen's Cup for the first time yesterday, after defeating El Remanso 15-9 in the final at Guards Polo Club. Patron Lyndon Lea was joined by Facundo Pieres, Rodrigo Andrade and Brit Matt Perry.
The El Remanso team, led by George Hanbury and also featuring Ali Paterson, Guillermo Terrera and David “Pelon” Stirling, pulled ahead early in the match, leading 3-1 at the start of the second chukka.
But brilliant play by Zacara, and in particular Pieres, who scored eleven of his side's goals and was named most valuable player, put Zacara 8-5 ahead by half-time. The team stretched their lead during the second half to win 15-9.
Earlier in the day Talandracas beat Les Lions in a close subsidiary final, lifting the Cartier Trophy after winning 11-10.
All four teams will now contest the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup at Cowdray Park, which gets underway on Tuesday 25 June.
