RALEIGH/COMCAST CLINCHED THE Miami Beach Polo World Cup title on Sunday. The team of Bash Kazi, John Gobin and Juan Monteverde pulled back from a half-time deficit to defeat La Martina 12-10.
The La Martina side of Guillermo Steta, Santi Torres and Carlos Gracida took the lead in the second chukka, but with goals from Gobin and Monteverde putting Raleigh/Comcast in front during the final chukka, La Martina were unable to regain the lead. Gobin was named most valuable player, with Santi Torres's mare, Mary West, awarded the best playing pony prize.
Six teams took part in the beach polo tournament, held at South Beach, Miami. Among them were two British players: Seb Dawnay and Jamie Morrison, who faced each other in the subsidiary final for the Fleischman Memorial Cup, playing for James Royal Palm Hotel/Jetblue and Merchant Hub respectively. The match finished in a 10-10 draw, while Grey Goose defeated SLH 11-9 in the second subsidiary final of the day.
