Twenty-two ladies teams line-up for National Women’s Tournament
This weekend at Ascot Park Polo Club, 22 ladies teams - ranging from -8-2-goal - will be taking part in the International Women’s Association UK National Tournament.
The 1-2 goal league will be contested between four teams:Stickhedz Polo Apparel, Pink Power, Silverwood and IWPA. Top lady players will feature, including two-goalers Marianela Castagnola and Rosie Ross, playing for Silverwood and Pink Power respectively. Joining Castagnola is Lucy Taylor (1), making them strong contenders. Sarah Wiseman is lining-up with Rosie Ross for Pink Power and Sophie Heaton-Ellis (1) is the highest rated player for Stickhedz Apparel.
There are six leagues in total, with four teams taking part in each – apart from the -8 goal, which only features two teams. Some players, including Lucy Taylor, young player Charlotte Sweeney, Heloise Lorentzen and Rosie Ross will be playing for more than one team over the weekend.
All of the finals will take place on Sunday (1 August); the 1-2 goal league will be decided at 3pm. The other highlight on Sunday will be a professional polo player charity head shave. Gaston Devrient, Richard Blake-Thomas, Oli Hipwood and Charlie Wooldridge have all agreed to loose their locks to raise money for charity from 2pm onwards. There will be hot food as well as beers, wine and pimms on offer both days. Car passes start at £10 and tickets can be purchased on the gate. Contact 01276 858545.
